Project Open Air

The Project

The idea evolved with the objective of building a ventilator model with low cost and accessible components that could be easily replicated anywhere and help save thousands of lives.

The details have been systematized in a scientific paper that is now available for consultation: Proof-of-concept of a minimalist pressure-controlled emergency ventilator for COVID-19, as well as all the details from the prototypes that were built and tested Prototype of an affordable pressure-controlled emergency mechanical ventilator for Covid-19

The patent has been registered in the name of Humanity, so no commercial gains from this innovation are possible..

The development of this project has the contribution of LIP, UNIDEMI, FCT UNL, Nova Medical School, ICNAS, Harvard University, the companies Tucab and Gavedra and two Portuguese engineers working for Formula 1 teams.
